My Story

I have a vivid memory of being 14 years old and a friend’s mum grabbing hold of my cheeks and saying ‘ohhh I love your chubby cheeks, you’re still so cute!’ 40 years on that memory still makes me cringe. 

I also remember at the age of 11 being on holiday and announcing that I was on a diet, I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t aware of my weight, it would have a direct impact on my confidence. If I felt thin I stood tall, if I felt fat, I tried to shrink.

Throughout my life I have reinforced the belief that I have to ‘watch my weight’ and that I can’t eat like normal people. I have used food as a reward and as a punishment – from eating a bowl of uncooked cake mix to rationing myself to 1 Weetabix soaked in black coffee and 3 iron pills a day. I have been out for some wonderful meals and no sooner have I had the last mouthful I have excused myself and made myself sick, returning to pay the bill.

I’ve always been (in my opinion) round, although I’m just over 5ft and a size 10/12 I have never consider myself petite. So when I trained as a Clinical Hypnotherapist I was pleasantly surprised to learn that I could use the powerful techniques to change my beliefs, my relationship with food and ultimately my relationship with myself. I now eat what I like when I like.  I have effortlessly removed certain foods out of my life simply and quickly, and importantly I enjoy what I eat, whether that’s chocolate or spinach.
